In 1932 the Stokke company was founded on the shores of Norway. The Scandinavian furniture shop focused solely on making high-quality furniture that could last for years, and it wasn’t until later that they switched their focus to creating items for children and their parents.
The Stokke company now has a wide array of products that they offer, but their most well-known creation is the Tripp Trapp high chair that was released to the public in 1972. Designed by Peter Opsvik, the Tripp Trapp chair is an excellent example of how the Stokke company isn’t afraid to use innovative elements in their products.
One of the guiding principles for Stokke products is that they must bring the child and parent closer together to help foster bonding, eye contact, and allow the child the ability to work on their skills. Some of the Stokke products employ more complex engineering techniques in order to provide smart and elegant solutions to everyday problems.
The Stokke Xplory continues this rich tradition of unique design and high-quality materials but adds in some useful and well thought out features that are hard to find in other models. As far as Stokke Xplory reviews go, ours includes a comparison with other products and a detailed list of specifications.
What Is The Stokke Xplory 6 Stroller?
- Raises your baby higher to promote eye contact and connection
- Suitable from birth
- Multiple parent and forward facing stroller seat positions
The Stokke Xplory 6 is a unique stroller that allows the parent to adjust the height of their child’s seat to foster better eye contact while using the stroller. This stroller also has adjustable parts so that it can be used comfortably by any size of adult.
This stroller comes in multiple parts which include:
- A chassis
- Baby seat
The base package for this stroller consists of the baby seat, but if you have a newborn, you’ll want to purchase the carrycot as well. One of the unique things about Stokke is that they don’t force you to buy packages of accessories with their strollers that you may not need. Instead, you can buy the base stroller and then purchase only the accessories you want.
The chassis and baby seat is available in several different colors, and you can choose a different colored chassis and baby seat for a visually pleasing contrast. The chassis is made from scratch resistant and durable materials, and the baby seat features multiple adjustments for comfort.
The baby seat on this stroller can accommodate a newborn and a baby up to 33 pounds. The padding adds some generous cushion to this seat, and the extendable canopy helps to protect baby from the elements. If this is your second child, consider checking out the Stokke Sibling Board that attaches to this stroller.
The Xplory 6 is also part of a travel system and is compatible with all Stokke car seats and other manufacturers car seats with the use of an adaptor. This stroller doesn’t work with all car seats, but adaptors can be purchased for Graco, Chicco, and Peg Perego products.
The adjustability of this stroller is a strong selling point and one feature that other brands can rarely compete on. Between the carrycot and the baby seat, parents can choose which options work best for them and then select from a myriad of different reclining positions and seat heights.
As with other Stokke Xplory reviews, the features are arguably the most exciting part of the product as other stroller brands infrequently replicate this design. The wheels can swivel and lock, so this stroller can fit in tight spaces and move about with little fuss. The rubber wheels themselves are also puncture-resistant and require no maintenance.
Some strollers have adjustable handles for parents to use, but the Stokke Xplory features a unique oval shaped handle that is equally comfortable at any height. The handle of this stroller can also be adjusted to different angles and not just up to down as with other stroller models.
The wheels on this stroller are also spaced so that adults can walk behind it without their feet hitting the wheels or other parts of the chassis. When it’s time to store this stroller, it can easily collapse in just one step.
The shopping bag that is included with this stroller can hold up to 11 pounds or 32 liters when you are running errands. If you decide to use the carrycot, it can detach from the chassis using one hand and features a soft lining on the inside for your baby’s comfort.
The carrycot also has air ventilation built into the base, and there is a canopy and visor to help protect your baby from the elements. Other accessories for the carrycot include a sleeping bag, lambskin lining, and storm cover. Many other accessories can be purchased separately at the Stokke website.
How It Compares
There are many different Stokke Xplory reviews, but to get a better sense of the quality of this product, it can be helpful to compare it to other similar products. There are not many strollers in the $900+ range, but the few that are priced at that level come with similarly impressive features and unique designs.

The Bugaboo Fox Complete Full-Size stroller has a similar design to the Stokke strollers and was voted as a finalist in the “Innovation by Design” competition hosted by Fast Company.
This stroller has a similarly designed car seat and carrycot with a maximum child weight of 48.5 pounds. The bassinet converts into a seat which means that you won’t have to store extra accessories as your child grows.
This stroller can fold into a reasonably compact shape and is capable of standing on its own wherever you choose to store it. The seat is reversible so your child can face towards you or away from you in one of three reclining positions.
The Bugaboo also has some fancy wheels that feature suspension for a smooth pushing experience and smooth navigation. Another unique feature is that this stroller is made from recycled materials and approximately 92 bottles went into making the fabrics used for this item.
The all-terrain wheels and plush seat ensure that your baby is comfortable wherever you decide to go, and parents can use this stroller as part of a travel system. With the right adaptor, this stroller can accommodate car seats from other brands such as Maxi Cosi, Cybex, Britax, Nuna, and others.
Pros and Cons
- Available in several color options
- Numerous accessories that parents can choose from
- Suitable for all kinds of weather and varied terrain
- Easily foldable and the bassinet is easily removed
- Can accommodate multiple siblings
- Highly adjustable for both parent and child
- Expensive and accessories add to that cost
- Non-Stokke car seats will likely require an adaptor to use this as a travel system
- Cannot accommodate more than one child seat or bassinet
- Not the best option for fast jogging or rough terrain
- Shopping bag may be a bit small for some parents
Some of the other strollers that we looked at for this review come with added accessories as part of the base package. While this might work well for some families, the Stokke company doesn’t force parents to store pieces of this system that they will not immediately use or ever need.
If you are thinking about purchasing a Stokke stroller, you may also want to look at the Stokke car seats that are compatible without the need for an adaptor.
The Stokke Xplory 6 is a luxury stroller option designed for those that want a highly adjustable product that is high quality and durable. The chassis of this stroller, in particular, is an excellent option as the materials make it durable, and scratch resistant, so it stays new looking longer than other options.
This stroller also has premium wheels which many parents overlook at first, but undoubtedly make a stroller more pleasant to push for any length of time. Another critical function is that this stroller folds in one step, and the bassinet can also be removed in one step which allows a single parent to navigate life with a small child more effectively.
One disadvantage of this product is undeniably the price tag, and many parents balk at the thought of potentially spending over a thousand dollars on a stroller. While this reaction is understandable, it’s also worth noting that this stroller will very likely outlast most other strollers on the market.
Most mainstream strollers begin to look worn around certain edges after being used for just one child, and many strollers barely make it through two children. The Stokke stroller is different because it uses higher quality materials that allow it to be cleaned, maintained, and handled without as much visible wear and tear.
Another function of this stroller that many other strollers lack is the incredible amount of adjustability that you can find in multiple places of the design. Few strollers allow the child’s seat to face both forwards and backward and the Stokke also has various reclining positions.
In many strollers designs, the comfort of the parent is mostly forgotten, but with the Xplory the handlebar is adjustable in both height and angle for a more ergonomic fit. It’s also worth noting that the wheels on the Stokke stroller are spaced far enough apart that you don’t have to worry about kicking them as you push the stroller.
The option to purchase accessories separately from the central part of the stroller also allows parents to decide what items they need and saves on storing parts that aren’t in use. Every part of the Xplory stroller is designed for both practicality and comfort with the intention that parents can maintain eye contact with their child.
