"I like to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas". Apples and bananas inspired a song (an unfortunately catchy one) and it is easy to see why. They compliment each other perfectly and are a great way to introduce your baby to tasty homemade fruit recipes.

Remember, always consult with your pediatrician before introducing your baby to new foods and recipes.

Apple and Banana Baby Puree

A recipe at its simplest form. Combine two fruits to form one yummy baby dish. The lemon helps cut through the sweetness of the cooked banana and apple and the end result is very pleasing to the palate.

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple (peeled, cored, cut into cubes)
  • 2 small bananas
  • 1/2 lemon (juiced)

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and cook over medium heat or until fruit is soft and tender.
  2. Transfer fruit and liquid to your blender (or puree appliance of choice) and blend until your preferred consistency is reached.
  3. Serve warm or cold.

Apple and Banana Baby Rice Pudding

By using the apple and banana baby puree recipe above you can quickly and simply make a delicious and nutritious rice pudding.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup apple and banana puree
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1/2 cup natural yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • (optional) 1 pinch of cinnamon or ginger

Directions:

  1. Combine ingredients in a saucepan and warm over low heat while stirring frequently.
  2. Mash warm pudding with a potato masher or puree according to the food consistency that your baby prefers.
  3. Serve warm.

Apple and Banana Baby Mash

When your baby is ready to mix fruits apple and banana make a wonderful introduction. This recipe relies on nothing but the delicious flavors of apple and banana to fill your baby up.

Ingredients:

  • 5 apples (peeled, cored, cut into cubes)
  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup filtered water.

Directions:

  1. Combine water and apple together in a pan and bring to boil.
  2. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook apples until a sauce-like consistency is formed.
  3. Set aside and in a large bowl, proceed to mash bananas.
  4. Add your applesauce mixture to the bananas and mash together.
  5. Serve immediately or freeze for later.

Banana and Apple Baby Custard

A delicious yet wholesome milky baby treat.

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple (peeled, cored, cut into cubes)
  • 1 banana (peeled, seeded and cut into cubes)
  • 1/2 cup breast milk (or formula or milk)
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon (or nutmeg or ginger)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F
  2. Steam apple until soft.
  3. Combine all ingredients in a blender until a smooth consistency, taking care not to make the mixture too runny.
  4. Pour mixture into ramekins (or any oven-safe dish) and bake at 350F for 20 minutes.
  5. Check every 10 minutes as cooking time will depend on how thin the mixture was pureed. You can check to see if the custard is ready by pushing a clean knife into the center. If the knife is clean when pulled then the custard is ready.
  6. Serve to your baby warm.

Bonus Tip: This recipe can be made by combining ingredients in a frying pan and scrambling on a low heat with a bit of olive oil, however, the resulting flavor will not be as sweet as baking.

Apple and Banana Baby Smoothie

A delicious and nutritious dairy blast with the help of your good friends Mr. Banana and Ms. Apple.

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple (peeled, cored, cut into cubes)
  • 1 bananas
  • 3/4 cup natural yogurt
  • 1/2 cup breast milk (or formula or regular milk)
  • 1 generous pinch cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until runny (add unsweetened apple juice to thin out if needed).
  2. Serve cool.

Bonus Tip: Add a handful of baby spinach leaves to sneak greens into your little one's diet. Your little one will happily be sucking away on that baby smoothen completely unaware that he is ingesting vegetables.

Apple and Banana Baby Popsicle

Is your baby suffering from teething pain or grumpy because of hot weather? An apple and banana popsicle will not only soothe those sore gums but also help keep your baby cool.

Depending on the size of your popsicle mold this will make up to 8 popsicles.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Ripe apples (peeled, cored and chopped)
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup natural yogurt

Directions:

  1. Steam apples until soft and mushy.
  2. Add apples and remaining ingredients and blend to a smooth consistency.
  3. Pour the apple-banana mixture into popsicle molds.
  4. Place into the freezer and freeze overnight.

Apple and banana oats

A simple and wholesome baby dish full of tropical flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 1 small ripe apple
  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 1 tablespoon oats (baby oatmeal for babies just starting solids or rolled oats for older babies)

Directions:

  1. Steam apple until soft.
  2. Combine apples and remaining ingredients in a blender (or food processor etc.) and blend until desired consistency is achieved.
  3. (Optional) To thicken add more oats or oatmeal, one teaspoon at a time. To thin, add unsweetened apple juice.

Apple and banana chicken

Doesn't sound like a nice flavor combination does it? You may be surprised to learn that it is a flavor hit among young babies. If you are looking for a way to introduce meat to your baby's diet this may just be the way to do it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple (peeled, cored, cut into cubes)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 chicken breast (boneless and skinless)
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F
  2. Mash the banana and apple together as well as you can.
  3. Cut the chicken breast in half lengthwise and stuff with your banana and apple mash.
  4. Place chicken in a small oven dish and pour coconut milk over the top.
  5. Bake at 350F for 30-40 minutes or until chicken is thoroughly cooked.
  6. Chop chicken to size or puree to desired consistency.
  • Bonus Tip: Serve this recipe with a side of brown rice for a nourishing meaty dish that your baby will love.
