Every parent wants their newborn to be safe when they travel. As such, finding the right car seat is no easy task. Luckily, in this article, we review a popular product from the Nuna company that has many parents talking.

The Nuna Pipa Car Seat claims to offer some of the best protection that a baby car seat can offer for transport. But does the safety device live up to this expectation? Or are there better, more affordable carriers out there?

In this Nuna Pipa Car Seat review, we will take an in-depth look at the product, so you know for sure whether or not it is right for you. So, without further adieu, let us explore the general features included with the Nuna Pipa Car Seat.

What is the Nuna Pipa Car Seat?

The Nuna Pipa Car Seat puts comfort and safety at the forefront of its design. The product features a TureLock latch for rigid installation. When anchored, it also features extensive side protection. However, portability is equally essential, as well.

At eight pounds, you can easily carry the product around in your arms, not just the car. Speed of installation is also crucial to the design of the Nuna Pipa Car Seat. The company claims you can set the product up in under five seconds, so no more wasting time with lengthy setup.

The car seat also comes with some added features for additional comfort. It features a mesh covering for protection against the sun on hot days, which allows airflow.

You can also attach a dream drape which provides extra protection against the elements. If you want to invest in a stroller, then the Nuna Pipa Car Seat can fit into Pepp product offered by the Nuna company.

Now that we know a little more about the general features that come with the Nuna Pipa Car Seat, let us take a closer look at the specifications that come with the product. The company makes the car seat out of a combination of plastic, steel, aluminum, and fabric.

The car seat itself weighs eight pounds, and the base that comes with it weighs fourteen pounds, so twenty-two pounds altogether. The product dimension measures out to be twenty-six inches by seventeen in half inches by twenty-five inches.

The Nuna Pipa Car Seat can hold children between the weight of four and thirty-two pounds and up to thirty-two inches in height. The device features a five-point harness system with a single pull adjuster.

In terms of safety features, the Nuna Pipa Car Seat offers side-impact protection capabilities in the case of a t-bone accident. It also features a crumple zone for added leg stability in the case of a crash.

The car seat is also airline certified so you can travel with it on a plane. Also, you do need to worry about making a mess on the position — you can machine wash the fabric on the Nuna Pipa Car Seat.

Where Can You Purchase the Nuna Pipa Car Seat?

You can purchase the Nuna Pipa Car Seat at most online baby retailers like Babylist, Piccolinobaby and Albee Baby. Alternatively, you can also find the transportation device at major retailers like Nordstrom, Dillards and Pottery Barn — either online or in the store.

Unfortunately, the main Nuna website currently does not possess any of the car seats in stock, so you will need to go through one of these retailers instead.

How the Nuna Pipa Car Seat Compares with Other Car Seats

In this section, we compare the Nuna Pipa Car Seat with two other popular brands. Specifically, we examine the product with the Evenflo Tribute LX Convertible Car Seat, and the Safety 1st Grow & Go 3-In-1 Convertible Car Seat.

We selected these two products because they represent good alternatives in different budgets. They also help us identify some of the strengths and weaknesses of the Nuna Pipa Car Seat.

When facing backward, the product can support children between the weight of four and fifty pounds, and when facing forward, it can hold between twenty-two and sixty-five pounds. The product also features a headrest that can adjust to ten different positions.

Like the Nuna Pipa Car Seat, it also does not take much effort to install the Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat, which makes it highly portable. However, the product is not perfect. Many users report that washing the cover of the car seat takes a lot of time and effort.

Other people experienced problems with the straps and adjusting them. Either they were too hard to ut on or they would not tighten all the way.

While this problem did not seem to affect everyone a significant amount of people complained about it, which leads us to believe that the Graco quality control is not as good the Nuna brand.

Safety 1st Grow & Go 3-In-1 Convertible Car Seat

The Safety 1st Grow & Go 3-In-1 Convertible Car Seat offers a slightly better value than the Nuna Pipa Car Seat. Like the Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat, it offers three different sizes, which grow with your child. It can start out taking five pounds and end up with one hundred in a forward-facing position.

As such, it represents nearly double the lifespan. The product might not offer all the bells and whistles and the other two car seats on this list, but it does get the job done and remain safe throughout its existence.

The product is stable, comfortable, and remains incredibly safe in most types of minor accidents. However, the product does come with some flaws. For one thing, installation with the Safety 1st Grow & Go 3-In-1 Convertible Car Seat takes a great deal of time, so do not expect a quick set up.

Many users report that the customer service that comes with the car seat also leaves a lot to be desired. So, if you received a damaged or used product and want to return it, expect a difficult time.

Nuna Pipa Car Seat Pros and Cons

In this section of the Nuna Pipa Car Seat review, we go over some things we like about the product and some things we think could use improvement. We include both our observations and other customers commentary so we can get a more complete and objective view of the product.

PROS

We know that the Nuna Pipa Car Seat puts safety at the forefront of its design, but what other benefits does it possess? Many parents report that the Nuna Pipa Car Seat greatly surpasses other car seats in terms of the overall comfort level. The product ages well and does not get itchy or scratchy over time.

The car seat is also versatile — you can install it on a car or plane seat without the massive base. While it will not be entirely as secure as with the bottom, it still gets the job done. The installation involved with the Nuna Pipa Car Seat is also exceptional. It takes almost no effort to switch and set up in different vehicles.

As such, it is an ideal product for families that switch their little one between cars often. While the base that comes with the Nuna Pipa Car Seat might remain a bit bulky, it is incredibly stable during rides. Even when you drive on bumpy roads, it is unlikely your child while notice since it remains so secure.

Finally, the seat portion of the car seat weighs almost nothing. As such, it is ideal for traveling because it will not weigh your arms down when you are carrying it like some of the larger models.

  • Comfortable enough for most newborns
  • You can secure the seat without the base
  • Quick installation
  • The base stays secure during bumpy rides
  • Light carrying weight

CONS

Unfortunately, like all products, the Nuna Pipa Car Seat is not perfect. These flaws come mainly in the form of problems with the accessories and specific areas. For example, the zipper that comes with the canopy quickly degrades, especially if it gets wet.

For many people, it became unusable after frequent use. Also, the dream drape that protects against the elements was too short for many parents and caretakers. In many cases, it did not protect the feet or legs of longer children.

We also notice that without the base the leg section of the Nuna Pipa Car Seat will sometimes shake violently, which usually upsets the child. Some people were also disappointed to find that the car seat did not fit correctly into their vehicle.

In BMW vehicles and other types of tiny cars, the product may be too large. Also, the five-point harness remained too hard for some people to operate. We find that with practice, this feature improves, but it will take some getting used both by you and the child.

  • Flimsy canopy zipper
  • Short dream drape
  • Leg section of the device sometimes shakes
  • Not compatible with some cars
  • Harness difficult for some people

There is a lot to like about the Nuna Pipa Car Seat. The comfort and lightweight design of the device makes it ideal for more parents and their children. Plus the easy install into almost any vehicle adds a whole other level of convenience for traveling with a baby or toddler.

But, the main selling point of the device is its safety features. If you care deeply about your child’s safety, then the Nuna Pipa Car Seat is a good investment in their future. However, this fact does not mean that the device is for everyone. The product lies on the more expensive side of the budget spectrum.

And though the material used by the company justifies this expense, it is essential to note that the Nuna Pipa Car Seat is not the only child transporting device you will need. The method will only work for around two years of your child’s life, and even this factor is subject to change.

If your baby grows at a slower or faster rate than healthy children, than the car seat’s lifespan can either increase or decrease. As such, the Nuna Pipa Car Seat might be too much of an investment for some families. However, we find that most of the pros associated with the product outweigh a lot of the cons.

In our opinion, the Nuna Pipa Car Seat is still an excellent infant car seat and toddler seat, even if it does not fit certain vehicles or user preferences.

We hope this Nuna Pipa Car Seat review helped you decide whether or not the transportation device fits your needs. Good luck during the rest of your shopping process!
