Blueberries are delicious and packed full of antioxidants. Thanks to frozen blueberries being found on your local supermarket shelf you can now prepare blueberry baby food all year round.

Remember, always consult with your pediatrician regarding introducing new foods to your baby.

How to keep Blueberries Fresh For Longer

blueberries in bowl

While you are dreaming up creative ways to feed blueberries to your baby, your blueberries are slowly deteriorating. Fortunately, you can keep blueberries fresh for longer with this simple tip.

  1. Place blueberries in a bowl with 1 cup of vinegar and 3 cups of water.
  2. Gently swirl blueberries around to dislodge dirt, grime while the vinegar kills spores and bacteria.
  3. Drain the berries in a colander and thoroughly rinse to remove any vinegar residue (trust me, vinegar and blueberries isn't an amazing flavor).
  4. You can either dry the blueberries by patting down with a cloth or paper towel or by using a salad spinner.

The above method kills any bacteria and spores that speed up the ripening (and rotting) process of fruit.

As for storing berries? You simply cannot go past Rubbermaid produce saver range. They come in all shapes and sizes and really do help prolong the life of your produce. I use the size below to store berries in and am super impressed with the results.
